The telecoms industry stands at a pivotal point in its sustainability journey. As global demand for connectivity continues to rise, so too does the responsibility to build networks that are not only powerful and resilient, but circular by design.

At TXO, we see this shift every day, in how operators are rethinking network lifecycles, in the growing focus on carbon reduction, and in the partnerships forming to drive sustainable transformation across the sector.

The Institute of Telecommunications Professionals (ITP) Awards 2025, held on Wednesday 8 October at the Royal Lancaster London, offered a timely reminder of that progress, bringing together the people and organisations leading positive change across telecoms.

Recognising sustainability leadership

This year’s Most Sustainable Company Award, proudly sponsored by TXO, was awarded to BT Group for its outstanding commitment to measurable, scalable sustainability.

From cutting data centre emissions and deploying the UK’s largest commercial EV fleet order to pioneering circularity through the award-winning Exchange Clearance Operation (ECO) programme, BT is demonstrating what sustainability at scale truly looks like.

As a key partner in the ECO programme, TXO is proud to support BT’s circular approach by helping to recover, refurbish and return equipment to the network, reducing waste and extending asset lifecycles across the UK and beyond. Read more in our BT ECO programme case study.

The judges commended BT’s end-to-end approach, combining responsible sourcing, carbon transparency and community investment to create long-term environmental and social value. Ricoh was also recognised as Highly Commended for its innovation in circular technology and sustainable operations.

Celebrating industry excellence

It was inspiring to see so many individuals and organisations recognised for their contributions to the future of telecoms, including TXO’s own Group CTO, John Teasdale, who was shortlisted for Outstanding Leader of the Year.

John’s nomination reflects not only his leadership within TXO but also his influence in advancing sustainable network transformation across the wider industry. His commitment to combining technical excellence with responsible innovation embodies the spirit of collaboration that is helping telecoms evolve for a more sustainable future.

From recognition to acceleration

The achievements celebrated at this year’s awards reflect a wider movement across the industry, one that views sustainability not as a compliance exercise but as a driver of performance, efficiency and resilience.

At TXO, we are helping organisations build, maintain and recover their network infrastructure responsibly, lowering total cost of ownership while accelerating the journey to net zero.

Circularity is not only about end-of-life recovery; it is about designing networks that can adapt, scale and evolve without waste. By extending asset lifecycles, reducing dependency on new manufacturing and enabling reuse across the ecosystem, the industry can continue to grow while cutting its environmental impact.

Looking ahead

Sustainability in telecoms is no longer a standalone initiative; it is becoming fundamental to how our industry measures progress and success.

The ITP Awards captured that shift brilliantly. TXO is proud to play its part, not just as a sponsor but as a trusted partner helping the telecoms community translate sustainability ambition into measurable, lasting change.
