We're thrilled to be supporting the Welsh Blood Service as one of our community & charity partners of the year. When we heard from Andy Martin (our Service Sales Manager) about the fantastic work they do, we couldn't wait to get involved. Click to read more.

Why would you like TXO’s support?
“I started out donating blood in my early twenties, and around 2014 I was asked if I would consider donating platelets. The main differences really are instead of donating a pint of whole blood in approximately 20-25 minutes, a platelet donation can be either a single, double or triple depending on your platelet count, and can last a maximum of 90 mins (just like a game of football!). I can also donate every 3-4 weeks, whereas for whole blood you might only donate 3-4 times a year.
For platelets, blood is drawn through a needle and transferred to a machine which separates the platelets from your blood and your blood is safely returned back to you.
I’ve never had an amazing story or personal connection as to why I give blood. However I have also stuck to the belief that I give quite simply because I can, in that I’m lucky to be generally of good health where others are not so fortunate.
I would love for TXO to raise awareness of the importance of giving blood.”
About the Welsh Blood Service
The Welsh Blood Service (WBS) covers the whole of Wales, and is the equivalent of NHS Blood and Transplant in England. It collects voluntary, non-remunerated blood donations from the general public. The Welsh Transplantation & Immunogenetics Laboratory, within the WBS, provides direct support to local providers of Renal and Stem Cell Transplant Services. It also operates a national panel of unrelated potential blood stem cell donors – the Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
